I’m starting a new project, a photo set profiling some of the people and personalities who live here in Altos del Maria. I’ve got no time-frame and will just let this unfold as opportunities present themselves. Meet Dr. Ty. He and his wife moved to Altos a couple of years ago from Idaho. He is a semi-retired medical doctor specializing in geriatric medicine. I say semi-retired because he returns to the states a couple times a year as a visiting physician in various Veteran’s Hospitals. He’s got five daughters, including two graduates of the US Naval Academy one of whom is currently serving in a military MASH unit in Afghanistan. He also has eleven grandchildren. We became friends over the course of a few months as we both enjoy a good game of poker. He’s a pretty decent card player and of late we have started playing cribbage together. I took this photo after lunch and a couple games of cribbage at the local Chinese restaurant in Sora. Ty’s greatest claim to fame, after 5 girls and 11 grand-kids of course, is that he was a starting defensive back on the 1967 USC National Championship Football team. The star running back on that team? A junior named OJ Simpson. .. Ty leaves for Anchorage, Alaska next week for a three month tour at a military hospital there. I’ll be looking forward to his return just in time for the holidays.
